About Us

Founded in 2013 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Denver, Colorado, OutPaws grew out of a dream to create an animal rescue organization reflecting Denver and Colorado’s young and vibrant ethos and living by the creed that there is no such thing as a bad dog or cat.

We believe that our pets rescue us as much as we rescue them, no matter if they are homeless or shelter animals that have been deemed “unadoptable.” OutPaws prides ourselves on being champions of the “underdogs,” and we know that with a little patience and love, mixed with proper care and training, these animals can make wonderful, loving companions. Whether placing pets in foster homes or forever homes, our role as “matchmaker” is one we take seriously. OutPaws hopes to reach those who are lifelong pet owners as well as those who are looking for their first rescue with the goal of creating and nurturing bonds that last a lifetime.

In 2021, OutPaws was given the opportunity to expand our mission — thanks to one of our longtime volunteers.  We have moved our focus to an 80-acre farm in Peyton, Colorado where we are able to operate as a vegan farm animal sanctuary, the OutPaws’ Sweet Home Sanctuary.  Through the sanctuary, we are able to provide forever homes to animals rescued from neglect and abuse, shelters, and the agricultural industry. We work to educate and advocate for the compassionate and humane treatment of all species.  Through both education and hands-on volunteer experiences, OutPaws demonstrates to the community the need for change in the way our society currently regards our fellow animals.
